Applied Science

The Applied Science Program draws upon the resources of

• the NASA/Langley Research Center,
• the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility,
• the Applied Research Center,
• industry partners and
• the College's biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics departments.

 The program features state-of-the art facilities in

• theory and computational design of materials and systems,
• materials synthesis and characterization,
• modification and evaluation of interfaces,
• processing control of materials and surfaces, and
• imaging technology and theory.

 

Virginia Institute of Marine Science

Aquaculture and maritime industries on technical and regulatory issues, economic development, and environmental matters.
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) has a three-part mission to conduct interdisciplinary research in coastal ocean and estuarine science, educate students and citizens, and provide advisory service to policy makers, industry, and the public. VIMS provides these services to Virginia, the nation, and the world.

The School of Marine Science (SMS) at VIMS is the graduate school in marine science for the College of William & Mary. Chartered in 1940, VIMS is currently among the largest marine research and education centers in the United States.
