One of the Hampton Roads' greatest assets is military. Over 95,000 uniformed men and women are currently stationed in Hampton Roads. Of these, approximately 15,000 join the private sector annually, adding skills and experience to the labor force. Additionally, over 10,000 civilians work on the various bases throughout Hampton Roads.

US Navy Cheatham Annex: houses Naval Cargo and Port Group and Army Veterinarian Food Inspection Office
Naval Weapons Station: 11,500-acre base with over 3,000 military and civilian personnel
Other military facilities include Norfolk Naval Station, Little Creek Amphibious Base, Oceana Naval Air Station, Coast Guard Atlantic Area, Fort Story
