New Town

Over the past few years, New Town has added to the diversity of the County.  The 300-acre residential and commercial mixed use, new urbanism development has added approximately 550,000 square feet of retail, office, and hospitality space to the County’s inventory.  Developed in collaboration with the College of William and Mary, Discovery Park at New Town offers 350,000 square feet of office/research space with a capacity of 500,000 square feet.

Monticello Market Place and Windsor Meade Market Place

Near New Town, Monticello Avenue quickly established a reputation for quality retail.   Monticello Market Place and Windsor Meade Market Place are home to several well-known retailers, and Settler’s Market at New Town, which opened in 2008, is a mixed use center adding 350,000 square feet of retail and office, with residential flats and townhouses.  These exciting developments are adding to the reasons to live, work, shop, and play in James City County.

Outlet shopping

James City County has long been synonymous with discount outlet shopping, making it a visitor destination in its own right.  The Richmond Road corridor, west of Williamsburg, is bustling with name-brand outlets and unique independent shops.  Prime Outlets, which expanded again in 2008 is reported to be one of the busiest Prime Outlets centers in the nation.

Visitor and business convention destination

For decades, James City County Williamsburg has been internationally known as a visitor and business convention destination for its history, scenic beauty, accessibility, and amenities, it has also become a popular residential and retirement location of choice.

The characteristics that make the County desirable to tourists and residents also make the County an attractive business location: convenient mid-Atlantic location, mild climate, wide range of  housing types, excellent schools, skilled labor, and relatively low cost of living.
