John Deere Expanding

John Deere joined AVID Medical, BP Solar, and The Barré Company as the fourth company in Stonehouse Commerce Park. According to Keith Taylor, James City County's Director of Economic Development, "the arrival of the $42.5 million John Deere project may further impact the county by attracting other companies, namely their suppliers, to James City County. When we first met with Deere, they said six or so suppliers might follow them to this area. It doesn't mean James City County will capture all of them. But we may be able to compete for some of them." John Deere recently announced a $12.5 million addition to its $30 million, 300,000-square foot factory in Stonehouse Commerce Park in Toano, James City County. The factory, which held its grand opening in June, manufactures John Deere utility vehicles, including the company's Gator line of products. The expansion will house the paint facility for the Gator vehicles and should add 25 jobs to the initial 300 John Deere expects to hire once the factory reaches full capacity. |
