Board of Supervisors, Economic Development Authority, and County Administration Host Small Business Recognition Event

As part of a continuing effort by the Board of Supervisors, County Administration, and the Economic Development Authority to interact with County businesses, an appreciation event was hosted Tuesday, March 30 for some County small businesses. Owners of industrial, technical, and business services companies employing fewer than ten people were invited to a luncheon at the Williamsburg Winery. About 40 people attended. As Supervisor John McGlennon observed in his remarks, the County sees small businesses as important to the character of the area and to the strength of the local economy and continues to look for ways to be supportive of them.

The luncheon featured remarks by Rob Bickford of the Winery and concluded with a tour of the facility. Mr. Bickford talked about the history of the American wine industry in general, and the Virginia wine industry in particular, emphasizing that the wine industry is growing dramatically at this time and able to support conversion of additional farm land into vineyards. He predicts that the industry will soon begin to provide opportunity for additional small businesses that can serve its needs as independent contractors.
