A southeast portion of James City County has been designated by the State of Virginia as an enterprise zone effective January 1, 1996, until 2016. The program is a State and local partnership in which both parties seek to improve economic conditions within a targeted georgraphic area by offering incentives for commercial and industrial investment, development, and expansion.
