James City County's Board of Supervisors recently appointed Matthew John “Jay” Diedzic, Jr., PE, to serve as the newest Director of its Economic Development Authority (EDA).

The EDA assists the County and its Office of Economic Development by helping expand James City County's business tax base. Its seven directors are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve staggered four-year terms.

Diedzic brings a wealth of experience to the EDA.  His companies, Blackrock Capital and Blackrock Energy, are focused on investment banking activities and developing energy projects, including oil and gas exploration, pipelines and power projects along the Texas-Mexico border.  He previously worked in energy research, engineering, planning and marketing with Detroit Edison, MCN Energy, and Patrick Energy Group. He earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and a master’s in business administration from the University of Michigan. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Michigan.

Diedzic is involved in numerous local community projects and organizations.  He and his wife, Sue, reside in Kingsmill.
