Two areas within James City County have been designated by the State of Virginia as an Enterprise Zone. The first, located in the southern portion of the County, includes the James River Commerce Center, Green Mount Industrial Park, the Busch Corporate Center and a portion of the SR-60 Corridor. The second zone is located in the northern portion of the County and includes a portion of the Stonehouse Commerce Park, Hankins Industrial Park, Jacobs Industrial Park and a portion of the SR-60 Corridor.
The Enterprise Zone Program is a State and local partnership designed to assist in improvement of economic conditions within a targeted geographic area by offering both State and local incentives for commercial and industrial investment, development, and expansion. This designation is currently set to expire on December 31, 2015.
By locating in the James City County Enterprise Zone , a business may qualify for any or all of the local incentives independent of whether it qualifies for State incentives.
In order to qualify for local capital investment incentives, a business or developer must make a capital investment of $1 million or more in a commercial or industrial project in the zone. Capital investment is defined as money used for land improvement, building, infrastructure, machinery and tools, or business personal property.
